A: Make sure your power cord is firmly plugged into both the back of the TV and the power outlet. Some models have a power switch on the back of the TV – make sure it is in the ON position. If you are trying to turn on your TV using the remote control, make sure you are using new batteries and that they are inserted properly. On Universal Remote controls, first press the "TV" button on remote control, and then press the POWER button.
A: Your new TV has to search for channels during the initial Start-Up phase. Please follow the Channel Programming/Auto Scan portion of the Owners Manual.

A: Make sure all cables are firmly connected into your television and your external AV sources. After you have made all connections, press the INPUT or SOURCE button on either the TV or the remote and choose the correct source. Make sure your cable, satellite, or set-top box is turned on. If these step fail, try a different set of cables.

After you have done so, check to see that the video input matches the sound input. Increase the volume on either the remote control or TV. If you are trying to view a TV station, switch to another station because some channels may be having broadcast difficulties.
A: Make sure you are using new batteries and that they are inserted correctly. Your remote will operate 16 ft. away from the television, and 30 degrees from center in either direction. Make sure you are trying to operate the remote in this range.

A: The Closed Caption function is set in the "text" mode. To remove it, access Closed Caption in the Main Menu and change the Mode setting from "text" to "off".
A: That would indicate that the MTS mode on your unit is set to "SAP" mode. We suggest setting the MTS mode to either "Stereo" or "Mono". For further instruction, please see "Audio Adjust" or "Multi-channel TV Sound (MTS)" in your User's Manual.
A: Yes, this is normal. That is the LCD backlight powering down.
A: Make sure to connect the cables to the correct outputs on your external AV source and the inputs on your television. Press the INPUT or SOURCE button to select the input mode that corresponds to your connection to the external AV source. Turn on your external AV source. Check for the correct settings in the Audio Select menu on your TV.
A: Check to see that the television is still plugged in to the outlet. If you have a television with a universal remote, be sure to select the TV mode on the remote. If the remote still does not work, reset the remote by removing and reinserting the batteries (assuring the batteries are installed in the correct position). Then press the power button down for 30 seconds. If the problem still exists, replace the batteries if needed.
If you have reset or changed the batteries in a universal remote control, you will need to reprogram the remote for the TV and other units.
A: Many Cable TV companies use the term "digital cable" to refer to the digital compression which allows them to provide more analog channels. It does not necessarily mean they are providing an HDTV signal. Contact your service provider to learn more about HDTV programming packages.
A: All satellite service providers (DIRECTV, Dish Network and Voom) have HDTV programming available. Contact your service provider to learn more about HDTV programming packages.
A: Depending on your location, you may be able to receive HDTV broadcasting using a terrestrial (over-the-air) antenna. Antennas are available at most electronic superstores and home theater audio and video dealers.
A: Yes you can. All SEIKI Digital models have built-in tuners. SEIKI Digital TVs incorporate features you're probably already familiar with in older CRT televisions, such as V-Chip technology, Closed Captioning, Sleep Timer and E-Z Setup.
A: The "i" stands for interlaced and "p" stands for progressive. 1080i and 720p represent two different methods used to display HDTV video on a screen.
When video is interlaced, a single video frame only draws every other line. If you numbered each horizontal line in a 1080i frame from 1 (as the top line) to 1080 (as the bottom line), each successive video frame alternates between drawing the odd-numbered lines and the even-numbered lines. So, a display supporting a 1080i format may draw all of the odd-numbered lines (totaling 540 lines) in one frame, and then draw the 540 even-numbered lines in the next frame. This format is used by CBS and NBC.
A Display supporting 720 progressive format will sequentially draw all 720 lines in each frame. You will notice a difference in picture depending on whether the program is being shown using the progressive or interlaced method. ABC and FOX use this format.
4:3 is considered Traditional TV aspect ratio. This is the screen's width compared to its height. 16:9 and 16:10 are considered Widescreen, which are similar to a movie screen rather than a traditional 4:3 TV.
A: Yes, in rare situations. This is also known as image persistence. In LCDs, it is not as permanent as it would be in Plasmas or CRTs. If you experience image persistence, turn off your TV for at least 15 minutes or until the image persistence has disappeared.
A: If you lose picture on the left and right of your screen of your TV when you set your Xbox© to 480p, try changing the screen size setting of your TV. To change the screen size setting, follow these steps:
1. Turn on your TV.
2. Turn on your Xbox©.
3. Press the "P. SIZE" button on your remote control to cycle through the various screen sizes.
4. Select the screen size that gives you the best picture.
Note: If you have attached your Xbox© to your TV using the standard AV cables that came with the TV set, you may not be able to run your Xbox© at 480p and get a full screen picture. If this is the case, you must reset your Xbox© to 480i.
A: An HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) cable carries both digital video and digital audio. It lets you connect any digital audio and video source, such as a DVD player or set-top box, to any digital audio and video display device such as a digital television (DTV), with a single connecting cable.
A DVI (Digital Visual Interface) cable carries digital video only. Consequently, to get both video and audio using a DVI cable, you would have to connect your digital source and digital display device with three cables: the DVI cable, and cables for the left and right audio channels. A simple adaptor lets you connect a DVI source to a HDMI display device.
Although, at this point, relatively few digital source devices have HDMI out jacks, HDMI is supported by most leading electronics manufacturers and consequently will probably become the industry standard in the near future.
A: Yes. You can use RCA cables for component video connections, however, the quality of your picture will be somewhat better if you used the proper component cables.
Important: Regardless of which cables you use, be careful to connect the color-coded outputs on your external AV source to the color-coded inputs on your TV, using the included cables:
Connect the red component outputs to the red component inputs.
Connect the green component outputs to the green component inputs.
Connect the blue component outputs to the blue component inputs.
Note: You will still need to connect the audio separately. Component connection is for video only.
A: In the United States, televisions use the NTSC broadcasting format. Film is shot at 24 frames per second (fps), but NTSC television signals run at 30 fps. As a result, it is necessary to convert the 24 distinct frames in a second of film into 30 new frames that can be played back on television. If you were to ignore this different frame rate and attempt to play back your film material at a 1:1 ratio with video frames, your material would play back at 125% of the actual speed -- a one minute film clip would playback in 48 seconds!
During "telecine" (film-to-tape transfer) when film material is converted into video, a 3:2 pull-down sequence is introduced into the footage which mixes alternating combinations of 3 and 2 video fields. This process stretches the 24 frames per second of film into 30 frames, so that when a converted film is played as video it has the appropriate number of frames per second.
Note: Only NTSC video contains this 3:2 pattern. PAL video, which is the format used in much of the rest of the world, runs at 25 fps and requires an altogether different pattern to solve this problem (24:1 pull-down).
A: To improve your picture, try the following:
Replace the cable that connects the TV to the cable outlet.
Check for breaks or damage to the cable, both indoors and out. If the cable is damaged, replace it.
Check the center pin at the end of the cable you attach to your TV. Make sure it is straight and long enough to make a good connection.
1. Make sure you are using the correct cable setting for your area.
2. If you use a cable box, make sure your TV is tuned to the proper station.
3. Sometimes its the television channel.
4. If these options don't improve your picture, you may need to run a new cable. Contact your service provider to learn more.
A: You may need to run the Auto Tuner Scan again and make sure that Cable is highlighted instead of Air. For instructions on doing so, consult your User's Manual or call SEIKI Digital helpful technical support line.
A: Most likely your TV has a fixed audio output level which means that the TV volume does not control the output level of the signal going to your receiver. If your TV has a variable audio output level, the volume level of the signal going to the receiver will be dependent on the TV volume.
A: TVs and VCRs designed for use in the U.S. use a broadcast system called NTSC. The NTSC/ATSC system is primarily used in North America and Japan. Most other countries use either a system called PAL or SECAM. These three systems are incompatible with one another. An NTSC/ATSC TV or VCR will not receive or playback information from a PAL or SECAM broadcast or tape. The same is true of the other systems. There are some TVs and VCRs that are capable of handling all three systems, and both would be needed to play tapes of different systems.
A: The Digital Comb Filter helps deliver a sharper picture, smoother graphics and a rich color picture. By comparing two consecutive scanning lines, the digital comb filter corrects picture distortion such as hanging dots, color bleeding and other cross color interference. No matter what program you are watching, the Digital Comb Filter will enhance your viewing experience.
A: In order to view over-the-air (OTA) HDTV broadcasts, you need to be within the reception area of a TV station broadcasting HDTV signals. Your cable or satellite provider may also offer HDTV channels as a part of their service.
While you have the HDTV source, please connect through the Component ports (YCbCr) to get 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i Video Format. If you plug a regular antenna or standard cable directly to the coaxial (TV) port of the TV, you may not be able to display signals in HD. You may need to have a Set-top box or High definition cable box to send the HD signal to the TV. For antenna or standard cable, connect the coaxial RF cable to the coaxial port on the set-top box and then connect the component video cables and the composite audio cables to the component and audio outputs on the set-top box and the component (YCbCr) and audio inputs on the TV.
A: Your widescreen TV has an aspect ratio of 16:9 (1.78:1), which is the aspect ratio of HDTV. However, movies are filmed at several different aspect ratios, including 2.35:1. Also referred to as "scope", 2.35:1 is a panoramic aspect ratio that provides a wide field of view in the theater. Scope is much wider than your widescreen TV, so it still requires the use of letterboxing ("black bars") to fit the entire image on screen. Some TVs and DVD players have a zoom function that allows you to blow up the image so it fills the screen, but the sides of the image must be cropped in order to do so.
A: This noise is normal and within the FCC standard for acoustic noise standard. The noise should be within the allotted 30dB/A level for audio. If you think the noise is excessive, call the SEIKI Digital technical support line.
A: There is nothing wrong with your television. You must go into your TV's menu, and then go to TV Setup -> TV System -> Cable -> STD -> Channel Scan. Once you have done this, you should have a good image. If not, your cable provider may be using a different type of frequency; in this case, you should try changing the source from STD to ICR or HRC.
A: To the right of the '0' button there may be another key that looks like "-/--". Once the button is pressed, you will notice that green lines will appear on the screen. In order to press two numbers, you need to press the "-/--" button until a green "- -" appears on the screen. If you need to press three numbers at a time, press the button again until you see a green "- - -" on the screen. Once this is set, you will not need to press this again if you want to change to a different channel.
A: Your TVis designed to receive Stereo broadcasts. It is also capable of receiving SAP (Second Audio Programs) available from TV stations. Some stations broadcast radio stations, weather, foreign language or nothing at all on this frequency. If your TV was mistakenly set to receive SAP, then you may be getting the wrong audio or no audio on some stations. To alleviate this problem access the MTS STATUS screen of your TV MENU and make sure you highlight STEREO instead of SAP. This should solve the problem.
A: The LC40G81 is a 120Hz model. The on screen display on the top right hand corner displays the true broadcast frequency only, which is 60Hz. All signals sources going into TV is on 60Hz frequency but the TV electronically up scales the refresh rate to 120Hz. Please refer to the user manual on how to turn on the 120Hz feature.
